Young Dem Events
Join members of the YD board, other Young Dems, and everyone else for a social at Big Boss Brewing on August 17 from 6 to 9 PM. Everyone is welcome whether you’ve been to a meeting before or identify as a Democrat. This month, with kids going back to school, we’re asking attendees to bring school supplies for us to donate to local schools! Keep a look out for an email invite!
Save the date for the 2017 PR Latta Award Night! This is an annual event that honors a member of the community who has made a difference in Wake County. This event will be on October 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at 18 Seaboard. It will be a great night of socializing and networking so we hope to see you there. Help register voters this month! You Can Vote is a nonpartisan organization in NC that is focused on getting voters registered. You can attend a training meeting on August 12 at 11 AM in Pullen Park to learn how to educate and register voters. RSVP here. Then join the group throughout Wake on August 19 to register voters. WCDP Benefit Concert
Join the Wake County Democratic Party at the home of Vicky and David Rubin for a concert at their home amphitheater benefiting WCDP. Bring a dish and your favorite summer beverage and relax, enjoy the tunes, and meet some Democrats! The event is August 19 from 6 to 9 PM. Cost is $20 for individuals, $35 for couples, $50 for sponsors, and $100 for hosts. Get your tickets here.
Wake County Election Events
Several events will be going on in August to help you get to know candidates in the upcoming municipal elections.
On August 12 from 3 to 5 PM at Chavis Community Center, there is a Campaign Kick-Off & Block Party in support of Ashleigh Parker Dunston for District Court Judge. This is a free event. RSVP here.
There will be a candidate forum for the Raleigh municipal elections on August 22 at the Antioch Bible Fellowship from 6 to 9 PM. This is a free event. RSVP here.
On August 23 from 5:30 to 8:30 PM at The Players' Retreat, Conversation & Community with Kay Crowder, District D’s Rep on Raleigh City Council will be happening. This is a free event. RSVP here.
Women’s Equality Day Celebration
Join the League of Women Voters of Wake County for this annual event on August 24 at 5:30 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall. Women’s Equality Day commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote. Every August this event honors the women who hold elected office for their service to federal, state, and local government. The reception includes a brief program to celebrate the women’s suffrage movement and recognize the women elected in our community. The keynote speaker is Brenda Rogers from the LMV Board of Directors. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here.
